Also known as Mullankaima, it is an aromatic rice from Wayanad with a rather unconventional taste and aroma. The Mullan kazhama rice got its name as it has a long awn on the paddy seed, which is almost round in shape. Mullan Kazhama is popularly used in pal payasam and Malabar biriyani. The variety produces a faint but distinct fragrance that permeates even the field. This rice is cultivated by only a handful of organic paddy farmers in the lush terrain of Kerala’s Wayanad district.
