Marcha Rice

“Marcha” is a short, bold, indigenous cultivar of rice locally found in the West Champaran District of Bihar. It is also known as Mircha, Marchaiya, Maricha, etc. The size and shape of the grain appear like black pepper, so it is known as Mircha or Marcha Rice. Plants, grains, and flakes have unique aromas that make them different. “Marcha Rice” is famous for its aromatic flavor, palatability, and aromatic chura (rice flakes)-making qualities. The major growing areas of Marcha rice are some villages of Mainatand Gaunaha, Narkatiyaganj, Ramnagar, and Chanpatiya Blocks of West Champaran district. Marcha is a tall-growing plant having a 145-150 day crop duration with average yielding capacity.
